Mrs. West's English and Literature Assignments: Dec. 1-19, 2014

ENGLISH-Period 3
From Monday, Dec. 1-Dec. -Friday, Dec. 12- the students will be presenting their "How-To-Speeches".  There are two presentations a day.  Please check with your child to see what day they are to present their speech.  Please make sure to sign a letter stating that the speech was practiced at least twice. 
-Students will also be working on their independent study packets on Chapter 25/ the spelling chapter.  They have an assignment sheet for the textbook and workbook.
-On Monday, Dec. 15 students will have time to finish their independent study
-On Tuesday, Dec. 16- the textbook portion of the independent study is due
-On Wed., Dec. 17-the workbook portion of the independent study is due


LITERATURE (Dec. 1-5)
Day 1 (Day 2: 8-1)
Take notes from the powerpoint presentation on Characteristics of a drama/ Charles Dickens


Day 2 (Day 3:8-1)
Finish notes from powerpoint.
Read article about "Advocate of the Poor"
Worksheet assigned from the article
Read "Oliver Twist" -the play


Day 3 (Day 4:8-1)
Worksheet from "Advocate of the Poor: due

Start reading A Christmas Carol

Day 3
If the class is done reading, they will have a test on A Christmas Carol  and the background info. that is on the review sheet. 


Day 4
If the class took their test on Day 3, we will read The Gift of the Magi., if not, their test will be today.


Dec. 15-19
Watch the movie : A Christmas Carol.
